FAQs

What is included in an eye examination?

A comprehensive eye examination will include a thorough medical history, including medication usage, and review of vision related problems and previous eyewear. You will undergo a series of tests to evaluate your vision including a refraction to measure your eyeglass prescription.

Your eye health will be thoroughly evaluated to check for a number of eye diseases, such as cataracts and glaucoma, and other systemic diseases that can affect the eye, such as diabetes.

What should I bring to my eye examination?

Please bring your vision and medical insurance information as well as a list of any medications you take, including over-the-counter medications and nutritional supplements. Bring your current eyeglasses and/or contact lenses, even if they do not work, since we can collect valuable information from them.

How long does an examination take?

Because we want to be as thorough as possible, it may take up to an hour for you to be examined and for us to design your eyewear. If you require additional services, such as contact lenses, or additional diagnostic testing, it may take longer. We encourage you to spend the time necessary to make your visit as complete and satisfying as possible. Some services or testing procedures are easily rescheduled to a more convenient time at a later date.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please contact us 24 hours in advance if you need to reschedule your appointment.

Is my examination covered by Insurance?

In many cases, your routine comprehensive eye examination will be covered by your vision insurance plan, such as VSP (Vision Service Plan). A visit for a medical problem, such as an eye infection, dry eye, cataracts, or diabetes may be covered by your medical insurance. We will help you determine your level of coverage, if we can, but since there are many insurance plans with many different levels of coverage, we advise you to contact your Human Resources department, or plan provider if there are questions about your coverage.

What insurance plans do you accept?

We accept many insurance providers including, but not limited to, VSP (Vision Service Plan), Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Medicare. Call us today to find out if we accept your provider.

What is a Contact Lens Evaluation?

After the completion of a comprehensive eye examination, additional services are required to evaluate a patient for contact lenses. Additional measurements are madeand lenses evaluated on the eye to determine the best power, fit and performance of the lens. Additional follow-up visits may be required to further analyze the lenses, or to evaluate different lenses. Contact lens services and materials are not included in the comprehensive examination fee. Our staff will be happy to discuss the range of fees that apply to your level of service and the cost of the lenses that best meet your needs. Many insurance plans cover some, but not all, contact lens service and material fees. You will be responsible for any fees not covered by your insurance.

Do you perform LASIK surgery at your office?

We do not perform the actual surgical procedure here. We do, however, work very closely with several highly experienced surgeons in the area, and can provide preoperative and post-operative care to our patients right here at our office. This provides a level of convenience and personalized care that gives our patients the peace-of-mind and confidence that they are receiving the best care possible.

Will my eyes be dilated?

We will make every effort to ensure that your eye health evaluation is as complete as possible. In some cases, this will require a dilation of the eyes to allow the Doctor to achieve a view of the inside of the eye that would otherwise not be possible. If you come to the office with a significant problem, you should expect a dilation to be part of the evaluation process. Some patients, such as those with diabetes, should expect to be dilated at least on a yearly basis. Routine dilations can easily be rescheduled at a more convenient time at a later date. If you are unsure of your ability to drive safely after a dilated examination, please arrange to have a driver accompany you to your visit.
